RTÉ News: RTÉ staff offered 6% pay increase over 2.8 years

Story from RTÉ News:

RTÉ staff are to be offered a 6% pay increase between May this year and December 2027 after agreement on a pay deal was reached between management and the RTÉ Trade Union Group (TUG).

An additional 0.5% will apply to those on salaries of less than €50,001.

RTÉ and the TUG had asked RTÉ's internal Industrial Relations Tribunal (IRT) to assist with the pay talks and agreement was reached on the proposals under the auspices of the IRT.

The proposed pay deal will run from 1 May 2025 to 31 December 2027.

It will now go to a ballot of trade union members and the TUG is recommending acceptance.

Under the deal there will be 1.5% pay increases on 1 May 2025, 1 May 2026, 1 October 2026 and 1 October 2027.

The additional 0.5% for those on less than €50,001 will be paid on 1 May 2026.

Talks on a successor deal will begin in October 2027.

As part of the agreement, no cost increasing claims will be made or processed for the duration of the deal, and employees commit to their full cooperation with normal ongoing change.

"The agreement reached seeks to achieve a fair balance - recognising the impact of cost of living increases on RTÉ staff and their families - while at the same time acknowledging RTÉ's own financial position within a highly disrupted media sector and its obligations to sustain employment, public service programming and its commitments to audiences," the pay proposal document states.

In October 2024, the RTÉ TUG lodged a pay claim for a flat rate increase of €1,500 plus 6%.

In December 2024 it was announced that employees would receive a non-taxable voucher of up to €1,000 as part of an interim arrangement while pay negotiations were ongoing.

The previous pay agreement at RTÉ was in November 2022, when staff received a 6% increase, over a two year period.

As part of that deal, employees were also given a non-taxable voucher of €1,000 in early 2023 and a further voucher of €500 in January 2024.
