Broadband TV News: Finland to end standard definition broadcasts

Finland’s HD transition is entering a final phase with standard definition commercial TV channels ending broadcasts via terrestrial and cable on 30 June, 2025. Finland to end standard definition broadcasts.

Officially, transmission company Digita will throw the switch at 08:00 on the Monday morning.

The company says that once it has completed the modifications, a channel search may be required in terrestrial households in order to view the channels of the terrestrial TV network.

The move impacts the following channels, which will no longer be broadcast: MTV3, Nelonen, MTV Sub, MTV Ava, TV5, Liv, Jim, Kutonen, TLC, Star Channel, Frii, and National Geographic. The HD broadcasts of the channels will continue as normal.

Digita is providing a helpdesk to assist with the transition.
