Story from Broadband TV News:
Canal+ has unveiled a series of new features for the Canal+ App. The French TV platform says it’s determined to be present wherever its subscribers consume content, including Apple Vision Pro and a range of cars.
The app combines a package of live content, replay and subscription video on demand. In addition to Canal’s own original content, it has also aggregated the platforms of Netflix, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Paramount+, BeIN, Eurosport and Dailymotion.
The app is currently available in more than 40 countries and territories with plans to roll it out in all its operating regions, starting with all Eastern European countries by the end of 2026, followed by Asia.
A new version being rolled out over the next few days offers “a smoother, clearer, more intuitive experience” with improvements to content navigation. For example, the clarity, position and size of each of the icons have been improved.
Particularly popular with test subscribers, a new timeline is now accessible by long-pressing the screen, allowing you to navigate through content as you wish.
Other new features include zapping inspired by social networks: swipe to change channels; direct access to the channel’s current, upcoming and past programmes; information on the current programme accessible directly on the screen; and access to all episodes of a series.
For Apple Vision pro users, Canal+ has produced a new immersive sports experience. Produced in collaboration with Apple and MotoGP, the documentary is the first Apple Immersive Video production filmed entirely with the new Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera.
A version of the app has been available in Renault connected cars equipped with OpenR Link in France, Switzerland and Poland since October 2024, Canal+ App will now become the first video application pre-installed by default in Alpine vehicles. Subscribers will have access to Canal+ content in Alpine cars, including the A390, to be launched at the end of the year. There are also plans to extend Canal+ content to all vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 9, and then in all future compatible BMW and MINI vehicles.
