The European Union has set June 10th as the deadline date for Europe’s individual countries to approve – or to open a full investigation into the planned merger between satellite operators SES and Intelsat. Both companies have always said approvals were likely in the second-half of this calendar year.If a full competition investigation is needed then it is likely to be nearer the end of the year before conditions can be agreed and the merger proceed.SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh told analysts during the April 30th results call that SES anticipates closing the transaction early in a previously suggested second half of 2025.The UK’s Competition & Markets Authority opened its investigation last month and set its date as June 12th for its deadline for comments. The end results will be a global behemoth of a satellite operator with more than 100 geostationary satellites, and a fleet of Mid-Earth orbiting craft.
