Broadband TV News: Bundesliga returns to Play Sports

Story from Broadband TV News:

Telenet has secured the broadcasting rights for the German Bundesliga through 2029.

It’s the first time in seven years that the platform has held the rights to German topflight football. Most recently the rights holder was the UK-based streaming service DAZN.

Matches will now be shown exclusively on the Play Sports channels and app with selected matches from Bundesliga 2 will also be featured.

Peer Naubert, Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer of Bundesliga International, said: “The demand for the Bundesliga goes beyond traditional TV viewers. Fans want to watch on the go – how and when they want. Telenet impressed us with the quality of their production and studio coverage, as well as their premium rights portfolio.”

Dieter Nieuwdorp, Chief Commercial Officer Residential & SOHO at Telenet, added: “Telenet (Play Sports) looks forward to joining forces with the Bundesliga to expand its reach and popularity in Belgium. With talents like Loïs Openda and Arthur Vermeeren (RB Leipzig), Arthur Theate (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Vincent Kompany as head coach of newly crowned champions Bayern Munich, the foundation is already set on the field for an exciting partnership off it.”

The new season begins on August 22.
