Broadband TV News: Eutelsat removing Russian channels from satellites

Story from Broadband TV News:

Eutelsat Communications has confirmed the removal of two Russian-originated channels from its satellites.

In March, French communications regulator Arcom gave Eutelsat formal notice to stop broadcasting Russian channels STS and Kanal 5.

The channels are controlled by the Russian company JSC National Media Group, whose economic resources have been frozen at the instigation of the Council of the European Union, as part of a ban on their broadcasting.

In its financial statements, Eutelsat said it was in the process of removing further channels controlled by this company, as well as those controlled by VGTRK, from Eutelsat capacity.

The operator said it was likely to have a limited financial impact of around €16 million a year.

Video still makes up half of Eutelsat’s revenues and amounted to €151.7 million in the third financial quarter, down 6.4% year-on-year, in line with the broader market trend.

Total revenues of €300 million were in line with expectations.
