Scripted shows and “superbrands” drove a 5% rise in Banijay Entertainment’s Q1 2025 revenue, the Big Brother and Temptation Island outfit has reported.Coming at the end of a long day of European media companies reporting results, the SAS Rogue Heroes studio reported production turnover rising to €568M ($635M) and distribution increasing to €64.4M. Total revenue within Banijay Entertainment including the live division was up to €704M, which Banijay said “reflected solid performance in content production and distribution and seasonality effect in live experiences.”Adjusted EBITDA within Banijay Entertainment and Banijay Live was up 12.3% to €90M.Banijay pointed to scripted shows and “superbrands” like the Bergerac reboot, Netflix’s Spanish thriller El Jardinero (The Gardener) and the same streamer’s U.S. reboot of Temptation Island.Overall, the Banijay Group, which incorporates a betting biz, saw turnover shoot up 7.8% to just over €1B for the quarter. The group is “well on track to meet 2025 guidance,” it said.“We are pleased to report a strong start to 2025. We recorded double-digit earnings growth across all activities,” said Banijay Group CEO François Riahi. “In content production and distribution, solid revenue growth was driven by the delivery of a strong slate of scripted shows, while our iconic superbrands continued to perform.”More is incoming tomorrow at Banijay’s capital markets day, Riahi added. The results come after a busy day of earnings from Banijay’s competitors. ProSiebenSat1 saw profits nosedive 39%, Fremantle’s turnover was down around 5% and ITV remained virtually flat. Banijay is reported to be acquiring the latter and we dove deep into a potential sale yesterday.Last year, Banijay Entertainment posted flat revenues of €3.3B.
