As part of a five-year strategy announced in 2023, the broadcaster outlined a plan to reduce staff numbers by up to 400.In an update to employees, RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst said the organisation has been informed by the Department of Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport that the Department of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery and Reform that its proposed Voluntary Exit Programme has been approved."This approval of the VEP represents an important milestone in the implementation of RTÉ's five-year strategy," Mr Bakhurst said.He added that the full details and the terms of the VEP will be shared with staff in the coming days once all of the necessary materials have been finalised and the processes are in place."I can confirm that the approved VEP relates to 2025 so that those whose applications are accepted within the terms of the scheme will leave the organisation this year," Mr Bakhurst said."I would also like to confirm that members of the RTÉ Leadership Team are not eligible to apply for the VEP," he added.RTÉ said it will launch the Voluntary Exit Programme in full as soon as it is in a position to do so.
