Broadband TV News: Arcom orders Eutelsat to pull plug on Russian channels

Story from Broadband TV News:

French communications regulator Arcom has given Eutelsat formal notice to stop broadcasting Russian channels STS and Kanal 5.

The channels are controlled by the Russian company JSC National Media Group, whose economic resources have been frozen at the instigation of the Council of the European Union, as part of a ban on their broadcasting.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Arcom has stopped the broadcasting of several Russian channels, NTV Mir, Rossiya 1, Perviy Kanal and NTV, whose programmes devoted to the conflict in Ukraine included incitement to hatred and violence, as well as inaccurate information.

The authority also ended broadcasts of RT France.

The latest decision marks the first time that Arcom has used new powers granted in May 2024 aimed at securing and regulating the digital space.
