Broadband TV News: MFE to consider possible ProSiebenSat.1 takeover

Story from Broadband TV News:

MediaForEurope (MFE), the Italian media group controlled the Berlusconi family, has called a board meeting to consider a potential takeover of Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1.

MFE, chaired by Pier Silvio Berlusconi, the son of the former Italian tycoon and politician who died in 2023, is already the largest shareholder in the Munich-based broadcaster with 29.9% of the capital. Any increase would require the launch of a formal takeover bid.

Relations between the German and Italian groups are said to be tense. Already Andreas Wiele, has decided to step down as chair at the general meeting scheduled for May 28.

ProSiebenSat.1, which accounts for around 25 to 30 percent of audiences in Germany, recorded a slight increase in revenue of nearly €4 billion last year and a slightly lower operating profit of €557 million.

Last week, ProSiebenSat.1 announced the sale of its online comparison platform Verivox to Moltiply Group for approximately €232 million.
