Broadband TV News: Court upholds LaLiga piracy action

Story from Broadband TV News:

A Barcelona commercial court has dismissed requests for an annulment of proceedings in a judgement that ordered the blocking of IP addresses that had been used for the illegal distribution of LaLiga football coverage.

The Spanish football league welcomed the decision by Commercial Court No. 6 of Barcelona against Cloudflare and RootedCON as “an important legal backing”.

The judgement backs the actions taken by LaLiga and Telefónica in their fight against audiovisual fraud and piracy in Spain.

It also dismisses the argument that the procedure for implementing blocking was indiscriminate.

“it is not proven, from the arguments made by the various petitioners, that any damage has occurred, nor is such damage identified, nor quantified, nor is the taking of any evidence requested aimed at proving, directly or indirectly, the generation of damage as a constitutive element of the claim for annulment.”
