Broadband TV News: France Televisions to replace individual channel brands

Story from Broadband TV News:

France Télévisions has announced plans to replace the logos of France 2, France 3, France 4 and France 5 with a single media brand, france.tv.

“On France 2 and all the group’s channels, you will no longer see a ‘.2’ at the top right, but you will see ‘france.tv’,” the executive assured during a press conference, unveiling this “small revolution”. “For a 15-year-old kid, the ‘.2’ means nothing […]. We are not going to make the channels themselves disappear, but, from June 6, “the brand is ‘france.tv’,” said Delphine Ernotte Cunci president of the public service broadcaster.

June 6 has been chosen to coincide with the reshuffle in channel numbers on DTT, which will allow France 4 to take position 4, following the departure of Canal Plus from the DTT system. Ernotte Cunci says the changes in logical channel numbers has helped France Televisions group numbers together and “revolutionise the brand more quickly”.

Ernotte Cunci has used the example of the BBC’s last brand refresh that has downplayed individual channel identities, though they still remain a significant part of the BBC offer.
