Spain’s public broadcaster will share matches for the FIFA World Cup with the rights broker Mediapro after it made the highest bid for the competition.

RTVE will pay €55 million for the rights to screen the 2026 contest that is being held in the United States.

Mediapro will sell on its share of the rights to a third party.

The PSB has invested more than €360 million in sports rights, the audience for La 1 has increased significantly, but there is criticism of the lack of sponsorship and the freezing out of commercial broadcasters.
