Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that Italian production executive Elettra Canovi has been appointed as director of scripted content for Max in Italy, where the streamer will be operational in 2026.Canovi joins Max, where she will be leading the development and production of original scripted series for the Italian market, from her role as head of development at Italy’s Indiana Production. There, she played a key role in shepherding shows such as “The Leopard” (Netflix), “Unwanted” (Sky Studios) and “Vostro Onore” (RAI Fiction), overseeing their entire production process from development to delivery. She also previously held roles as editorial department coordinator and story editor at ITV-owned Cattleya, where Canovi was involved in the development and production of titles such as “Gomorra,” “Suburra” and “Zero Zero Zero.”Canovi joins Max following the announcement of their first Italian scripted original production, the limited series “Portobello” by revered auteur Marco Bellocchio, now filming in Rome. “Portobello,” which will debut on the platform in 2026, tells the story of Italian TV host Enzo Tortora, who was a victim of one of Italy’s most clamorous travesties of justice. In her new role, Canovi will report to Laura Carafoli, SVP content networks and streaming for local productions Italy and Spain, who leads a team that includes Cecilia Penati, senior director responsible for unscripted on Max, as well as vice presidents of programming Aldo Romersa and Gesualdo Vercio.Max is now already available in some 25 countries in Europe, spanning Spain, France, Benelux, the Nordics and Central and Eastern Europe.
