Broadband TV News: New numbering system for French DTT

Story from Broadband TV News:

A new numbering system for national channels broadcast on the digital terrestrial television (TNT) system in France is being introduced from June.

Communications regulator Arcom says the changes have been brought about by the launch of the new CMI TV and OFTV channels and the decision by Canal+ to stop broadcasting on DTT.

While putting the new system in place, Arcom has also tried to limit the inconvenience to viewers as much as possible,

News channels have been given their own block, while the relative order of the channels has been maintained, so logical numbers 13, 14, 15 and 16 and been assigned to BFMTV, CNEWS, LCI and Franceinfo respectively.

The creation of the block has necessitated a move for France 4, which has been assigned the number 4, so that France 2, France 3, France 4 and France 5 follow one another logically.

Numbers 8 and 12, become vacant on February 28, 2025, will be allocated to La Chaîne parlementaire, which moves next to cultural channel Arte.

The Gulli service, targeting young people, is assigned the logical number 12, after the TFX service which is also partly aimed at a young audience. This assignment gives the service greater visibility among this audience.

Numbers 18 and 19, both vacant, were allocated, after a draw, to CMI TV, for number 18 and OFTV, for number 19.

The other numbers used by television services on DTT are not changed.
