Broadband TV News; Amid struggle with MFE: ProSiebenSat.1 Board Chair Dr Andreas Wiele to step down

Story from Broadband TV News:

Dr Andreas Wiele, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of German media company ProSiebenSat.1, will not seek re-election after the regular expiration of his term.

Wiele plans to step down from his role at the end of the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 28 May 2025, according to ProSiebenSat.1. The Supervisory Board and the nomination committee have immediately commenced the search for a suitable successor, aiming to present a candidate at the AGM.

In a statement, Wiele reflected on his tenure, expressing gratitude for the collaboration with the Supervisory Board and Executive Board over the past three years. “ProSiebenSat.1 is on the right track with an outstanding Executive Board and a clear strategy,” Wiele said. He highlighted key achievements, including the company’s focus on core business, significant investments in local content, the growth of its streaming platform Joyn and a value-driven approach in the commerce & ventures segment.

Wiele also acknowledged the changes in the shareholder structure and Supervisory Board composition since his appointment in 2022, stating that it was the right time to transition leadership. “By doing so, the company can continue consistently on the transformation path it has embarked on,” he said.

Professor Dr Cai-Nicolas Ziegler, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board, described Wiele as a transformative leader whose experience, integrity and creative vision have significantly advanced ProSiebenSat.1: “His departure leaves a great void, which won’t be easy to fill.”

Group CEO Bert Habets echoed these sentiments, expressing regret over Wiele’s decision while emphasising the strong collaboration during his tenure: “He has strongly supported our strategy, and his deep understanding of media and change expertise have been a great help to the company.”

The withdrawal comes in the midst of the power struggle over the possible majority takeover of ProSiebenSat.1 by the largest single shareholder MFE-MediaForEurope, which has been the subject of speculation for months.
