The Dutch Data Protection Authority (DPA) has fined Netflix €4.75 million – five years after it began an investigation into its use of consumer data. The DPA found the streamer had failed to inform customers about how it had treated their personal data between 2018 and 2020.It said Netflix provided too little information to customers, or the information provided was unclear.‘A company like that, with a turnover of billions and millions of customers worldwide, has to explain properly to its customers how it handles their personal data,’ Dutch DPA chairman Aleid Wolfsen said in a statement. ‘That must be crystal clear. Especially if the customer asks about this. And that was not in order.’Netflix has since updated its privacy statement and improved its information provision.
