Cellnex Telecom has finalised the sale of its operations in Austria. A consortium led by Vauban Infrastructure Partners, EDF Invest and MEAG has acquired the business for €803 million. The Austrian unit had been part of Cellnex since early 2021. It was acquired as part of a larger agreement with CK Hutchison to buy infrastructure assets in six European countries. Cellnex managed around 4,600 sites in Austria. The company confirmed evaluating the sale of its Austrian business in November 2023.Marco Patuano, CEO of Cellnex, stated that the sale aligns with the company’s strategy. “The closing of the sale of our Austrian business will allow us to further consolidate, simplify, and focus our efforts on growth opportunities in the main markets in which we operate, as well as on the balance sheet and the acceleration of shareholder remuneration, thus fulfilling our commitments to the market,” he said.Cellnex is Europe’s largest operator of telecommunications towers and infrastructure, allowing operators to access an extensive network of telecommunications infrastructure on a shared-use basis, thereby helping to reduce access barriers for new operators and improve services in the most remote areas, according to the company. In total, Cellnex manages a portfolio of over 130,000 sites – including planned roll-outs up to 2030 – in 10 European countries, with a strong presence in Spain, France, the UK, Italy and Poland.
