Variety: Producer Daniel Silver Launches BD4 Documentary Label With Banijay Americas

Story from Variety:

Banijay Americas has partnered with former ESPN producer Daniel Silver to launch a documentary label BD4, which will mix documentary filmmaking with narrative storytelling.

“We are delighted to welcome Daniel Silver to the Banijay Americas family,” said Ben Samek, CEO of Banijay Americas.

“Silver’s extensive connections in documentary storytelling and his bold approach to filmmaking will greatly enrich the craft of this format. Silver captures stories with profound authenticity, revealing hidden lives and experiences. BD4 dives deeper by blending cinematic scope with intimate exploration to showcase untold stories of today’s cultural icons, athletes and performers, resulting in surprising and more intimate experiences that resonate deeply with a broad audience,” Samek said.

Before teaming with Banijay, Silver produced documentaries with ESPN for more than a decade and was the head of unscripted content at Disney+. Silver also served stints at Marvel Entertainment, ABC Digital News and Netflix, where he oversaw production of the streamer’s original English language documentaries.

“I’m honored to join forces with Banijay Americas,” Silver said. “This business is the gold standard in the unscripted space and is one of the world’s leading independent studios. With this partnership, BD4 will be empowered to vigorously explore new creative paths and collaborations. I am looking forward to using this opportunity to embolden other new voices and visions.”

Banijay Americas is the U.S. and Latin American arm of Paris-based Banijay Group. The company at presents produces about 100 original series and about 1,500 hours of TV annually. The company’s active roster of reality shows include reality shows such as “Below Deck,” “Big Brother” and “Ink Master,” as well as the Spanish language series “Canta Conmigo,” “La Casa de Los Famosos” and “Master Chef Mexico.”
