The manager of MultiChoice’s office in Nigeria is faces being found in contempt of court after the pay-TV operator refused to comply with an order made by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal.The original order, brought by consumer rights activist Festus Onifade accused the pay-TV company of unjustly increasing its prices.Increases of up to 25% were introduced on May 1 for subscribers of both DStv and GOtv packages.The Guardian (Nigeria) reported Onifade’s lawyer Ejiro Awaritoma said MultiChoice had wilfully disobeyed the court and had gone ahead with the price increase without thought for the consumer.However, MultiChoice counsel Moyosore Onigbanjo challenged the jurisdiction of the court.The court was adjourned until May 16 to allow time for Onigbanjo to consider new processes put forward by Onifade.
