Story from Broadband TV News:

Viasat World is launching a new crime-themed television channel; Viasat True Crime will debut in the Polish market with Canal+.

Viasat World has partnered with global audiovisual group, Canal+ as both the primary broadcaster, and technical partner for the new channel. Viasat True Crime will take channel position 219 on the Canal+ platform, and be available in the Relax+ and higher packages.

Viasat True Crime will focus exclusively on true crime programming, including marquee documentaries of shocking real-life cases, chilling true crime drama series, and gripping crime-fighting reality shows. Expert curation will be a signature feature of this unique channel, made richer by telling stories across multiple content genres, providing viewers with a distinctive breadth of programming. Viasat World has also secured the SVOD and FAST rights for much of its launch content.

From launch, Viasat True Crime will include documentaries on front-page cases including: The Clown and the Candyman (Cineflix Rights) and Married to a Psychopath (Abacus Media Rights); true crime series including Murder Uncut (Cineflix Rights) and Killer Cases (Cineflix Rights); reality crime-fighting shows, such as Busted in Bangkok: Thai Tourist Police (Blue Ant Media) and Prison Down Under (Fred Media), as well as critically acclaimed drama productions based on true events, including The Sixth Commandment (Banijay Rights), Des (All3Media International), The Hunt for a Killer (Banijay Rights), and The Serpent (ITV Studios).

Benjamin Groocock, CEO for Viasat World commented: “We’re incredibly excited to introduce Viasat True Crime to audiences in Poland, and soon across our other markets. Our independence as a broadcaster allows us to work closely with our operator partners and respond quickly to audience needs; and we’re thrilled to have Canal+ as our partner for the launch of Viasat True Crime. Content curation runs through our DNA, and with this new channel, we will be able to tell stories across multiple content genres, whilst uniquely offering fans of true crime a comprehensive mix of scripted drama, factual documentaries, and real-life crime-fighting, all in one place.”

Viasat True Crime will join the channel offering of Viasat World, whose Polish portfolio includes the thematic channels Polsat Viasat Explore, Polsat Viasat History and Polsat Viasat Nature, as well as premium series channel, Epic Drama.
