Variety: John Malone, Barry Diller, Mike Fries and David Zaslav Set for Rare Public Conversation at Paley Center for Media

Story from Variety:

John Malone will reflect on the deals, disruptions and business relationships that have shaped his storied career in the media and technology during a panel discussion next month with three CEOs — Barry Diller, Mike Fries and David Zaslav — closely associated with his empire. The luncheon event will be held Sept. 4 at the Paley Center for Media in New York as part of its Paley Dialogues series.

Diller, who is chairman and senior executive of IAC, Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav will join Malone in conversation as he discusses his memoir, “Born to be Wired.” It’s set for publication on Sept. 2 by Simon & Schuster.

“We are honored to welcome the legendary ‘cable cowboy’ and iconic media titan, John C. Malone, for a powerhouse conversation featuring insights from his highly anticipated new book, ‘Born to Be Wired,’ along with perspectives on the next era of media from esteemed industry leaders Barry Diller, Mike Fries, and David Zaslav,” said Maureen Reidy, president and CEO Paley Center for Media.

Malone, 84, who at present is chairman of Liberty Media, is a key architect of the modern multichannel universe. He’s spent the past 25 years as an influential investor in media, entertainment and telecom in the U.S. and abroad. From the 1970s through the late 1990s, Malone built Colorado-based Tele-Communications Inc. into the nation’s largest cable system operator. TCI helped shape the modern entertainment landscape and helped lay the track for broadband services.

In the past few decades, Malone has been a major investor in Formula 1, Sirius XM, the Atlanta Braves baseball team and DirecTV, among other high-profile assets.

Tata Consultancy Services is sponsor of the Paley Media Council’s Paley Dialogue series.
