Paramount Global for sale latest - Broadband TV News: CBS News staff are bracing for possible layoffs

Story from Broadband TV News:

CBS News staff are bracing for possible layoffs as its parent company, now part of Paramount Skydance, moves ahead with $2 billion in cost cuts due to declining traditional TV ad and distribution revenue, reports Variety.

The future of CBS Evening News is also uncertain, as executives consider tweaking its struggling format.

The current version, led by John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois with a dual-anchor setup, has seen ratings fall compared to ABC and NBC. Plans call for one anchor to report on-location at major events while the other remains in the studio, aiming to balance breaking news with in-depth features.

The show’s executive producer, Guy Campanile, is leaving for 60 Minutes, fueling speculation about leadership changes, with veteran producer Kim Harvey mentioned as a possible replacement. Despite efforts to modernise the program by borrowing elements from 60 Minutes, audiences have not responded, leaving CBS far behind its rivals in viewership.
