Virgin Media is poised to become the lead broadcaster for Premier Division football in Ireland after clubs voted for their bid in favour of RTE.The public broadcaster is said to have offered to increase the number of matches shown on RTÉ2 from 17 to 20 for the 2025 season. However, the clubs instead voted for Virgin’s bid that would feature 36 League of Ireland Premier Division matches, one per round.The vote must first be ratified by the Board of the Football Association of Ireland.Virgin has been broadcasting selected League of Ireland matches since 2023.FAI Cup and European matches are not included in the deal leaving RTE able to cover those matches, subject to agreement.
