Broadband TV News: Expansionist Canal stable in first half

Profitability at Canal+ Group remained stable in the first half of 2023 as the Vivendi unit continued its international expansion.

As the company prepares for a possible listing on the London market, the pay-TV platform recorded an EBITA of €337 million, down slightly at 1.9%. 

Canal continues to progress its acquisition of the South African MultiChoice, whoch it says will create “a global entertainment business with Africa at its heart”.

It has also increased its share in Viaplay to 29.33%, confirming its position as the largest shareholder; acquired an interest in Senegalese production company Marodi TV and increased its interest in Asian OTT service Viu to 36.8%. 

Revenues from television operations in mainland France increased by 4.4% compared to the first half of 2023. Revenues from international operations increased by 4.2% year-on-year (+2.6% at constant currency and perimeter), due to continued growth in the subscriber base.
