Advanced Television: DAZN, beIN score Ligue 1 rights

Story from Advanced Television:

With the start of the French top flight football Ligue 1 season fast approaching, a deal for the broadcasting rights for the upcoming cycle has finally been reached.

Governing body the LFP had been seeking a €1 billion bid for the 2024-2029 cycle, however, received no bids at auction, leading to talks with individual broadcasters, which had proved inconclusive.

However, given time pressures, Ligue 1 chiefs met on July 14th to study two options: a joint bid from DAZN and beIN Sports and a 100 per cent LFP channel, deciding to accept the broadcasters’ bid.

DAZN will pay €400 million per season for eight out of the nine games in each round, whilst beIN Sports will take the headline fixture each week, or the second biggest game every other round for €100 million.
