Deadline: FX Greenlights Comedy Pilot From ‘Reno 911’ Team; Robert Ben Garant, Cathy Shim & WWE’s Becky Lynch Among Cast

FX has picked up the new workplace comedy pilot Movers, from creators and executive producers Robert Ben Garant and Cathy Shim. Garant co-created Comedy Central’s Reno 911!, in which Shim also starred. That mockumentary’s executive producers, Stacey Sher and Peter Principato, will EP the pilot with Jonny Shipes (BMF: The Rise and Fall of a Hip-Hop Drug Empire).

Garant and Shim will also star in the 20th Television-produced project alongside Maz Jobrani (Friday After Next), Darius Homayoun (Sex/Life), Tanael “TJ” Joachim, Manny Montana (Ironheart) and WWE’s Becky Lynch (real name Rebecca Quin) co-starring.

Movers is an improvised workplace comedy revolving around the erratic and codependent lives of a crew of movers.

Reno 911! is a mockumentary comedy series that parodies law enforcement and premiered on Comedy Central in 2003. Garant co-created the series alongside Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver.

Garant most recently co-produced the TruTV Pilot Seoul Hunters, along with Shim, Big Breakfast and Propagate Content. He co-wrote, directed and starred in the Emmy-nominated special Reno 911! The Hunt For QAnon. Additionally, he created, directed, and produced the Comedy Central pilot Chasers with Rob Huebel and Shim.

He previously wrote the film Spooky Jack, based on an original idea for DreamWorks Animation, and the films The Veil and Jessabelle for Blumhouse. Garant rose to prominence after creating, writing, directing and starring in the hit Emmy-nominated Comedy Central series Reno 911!, alongside Thomas Lennon. In addition, the duo co-created several films together including the Night at the Museum franchise, The Pacifier, Reno 911!: Miami, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Balls of Fury, Hell Baby and Baywatch. He is repped by CAA, Artists First, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Shim is a Korean-American actress, writer, and producer who can most recently be seen in Anderson Paak’s directorial debut K-Pops!, which premiered at TIFF in 2024. Additional credits include Ed Helms’ Comedy Central special The Fake News and Reno 911!, The Sun is also a Star, Balls of Fury, The Watch, Reno 911!: Miami, The Cleveland Show, Superior Donuts, Bajillion Dollar Brokers, Blazing Samurai, an animated action comedy inspired by Mel Brooks’ timeless classic, Blazing Saddles, Reno 911!: Miami, and the feature film Reno 911! The Hunt For QAnon. She is repped by Global Artists Agency and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Jobrani was born in Iran and relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area after his family was forced to flee during the revolution. His film credits include Ice Cube’s Friday After Next, 13 Going on 30, The Interpreter, and Disney’s Descendants. He also starred in the award-winning indie comedy, Jimmy Vestvood: Amerikan Hero, a feature he co-wrote and co-produced. Jobrani starred in the stand-up special Immigrant. Five additional solo specials have been released on Showtime, Peacock, and YouTube. Most recently, Jobrani was seen in the feature A Simple Wedding, and in Hulu’s Taste The Nation. He is repped by CAA and Mainstay Entertainment.

Quin is best known as the WWE superstar Becky Lynch, who recently made her big return to the WWE ring at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. She teamed with Lyra Valkyria and went on to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Should Movers get picked up to series, it’s unknown what that will mean for her wrestling career. Up next, she will be seen in Netflix’s Happy Gilmore 2, premiering July 25. Additionally, she will soon appear on Alex Kurtzman’s Star Trek for Paramount+. Her prior credits include Showtime’s Billions, part of the stunt team for Vikings, and playing Cyndi Lauper in NBC’s Young Rock. In 2024, she released her memoir Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl, a New York Times bestseller. She is repped by CAA, Adventure Media, and Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver Thompson.

Homayoun was born in Dubai and later moved to New York City. His recent credits include Netflix’s Sex/Life, HBO’s Succession, and Apple TV+’s Tehran. Additional credits include The Long Road Home (Nat Geo), the TV movie Stanistan (USA), and Tyrant (FX). His theatre work includes Power Strip by Sylvia Khoury (Lincoln Center), The Altruists by Nicky Silver (NYU) and Moments with Moisés Kaufmann (NYU). Homayoun is represented by Gersh.

Joachim is a Haitian-born stand-up comedian based in New York City. He is a regular at the Comedy Cellar and Gotham Comedy Club and has toured all over the world. He recently returned from a European tour, doing sets in both English and French. He has opened for Colin Quinn, Janelle James, Maria Bamford and Sean Patton. He has also been a featured performer at numerous festivals including Netflix Is A Joke, SF Sketchfest and the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival. Joachim is also an op-ed contributor for the New York Times. He starred in the comedy special January 3 for Amazon and released the album Son of Haiti. Joachim is represented by Artists First.

Montana has a lead role in Marvel’s limited series Ironheart, which recently premiered on Disney+. He is well known for his four-season run opposite Christina Hendricks on NBC’s drama Good Girls and his recurring role on FX’s Mayans M.C. He is represented by Innovative Artists and Trademark Talent.
