Deadline: Fox Entertainment & Hulu Extend Major Streaming Deal With Pact Worth North Of $1.5B

Story from Deadline:

Fox Entertainment and Hulu are staying in business together in a major way.

The two companies have struck a new multiyear content partnership that includes in-season streaming rights for Fox’s programming slate.

The broadcast network and the Disney-owned streamer also have expanded their multiplatform marketing arrangement in the deal, which sources tell Deadline is worth more than $1.5B over four years with the ad-load included.

Fox got in early to renew the deal – the previous arrangement was unveiled in January 2023 and Deadline understands this new pact runs through 2029. It gives the network a bedrock to build out its slate of originals including dramas such as Rescue HI-Surf and Murder in a Small Town, comedies including Animal Control and reality series such as The Masked Singer, The Floor and Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Chef.

The move also means that the long-running Disney-produced animated series — particularly The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, all of which all produced by 20th Television Animation — likely will remain on the network. The three shows are currently renewed through the end of this 2024-25 season.

The deal is a boon for both businesses. Fox gets a major streaming partner for all of its content, and Hulu gets in-season rights for valuable streaming properties. The former had recently been experimenting with some new business models such as striking a deal with Amazon for the second window for game show The 1% Club.

Both companies will share marketing costs with shows promoted as airing on Fox live and Hulu on-demand.

It also builds on the output deal struck in February 2022 for out-of-season rights to key Fox unscripted shows such as The Masked Singer, Name That Tune and MasterChef, and brings it together with its other pact.

“Our friends at Hulu and Disney Entertainment are exceptional partners, together driving ongoing mutual growth and strong results,” said Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment. “Through our new agreement, we look forward to expanding on this impressive track record and collaboratively shaping the future of television in today’s shifting media landscape.”

Added Hulu General Manager Lauren Tempest, General Manager, Hulu. ““The long-standing, valued partnership we have with Fox has cemented Hulu as the next day streaming home for current Fox hits and out of season episodes of key Fox titles, and we’re excited to continue offering these scripted, unscripted and animated series to our subscribers. Our collective marketing efforts, which will continue with this new deal, have generated impressive results and helped viewers successfully find the shows they want to watch, when they want to watch them.”
