The EBU has called on WIPO Member States to recommend the WIPO General Assembly to convene a Diplomatic Conference for the adoption of the WIPO Broadcasting Organizations Treaty.WIPO is the World Intellectual Property Organisation.In a joint statement European broadcasters represented by the EBU, ACT, and AER said the piracy of broadcast signals had become a global issue.“The Internet facilitates unauthorised use and distribution of broadcasters’ signals, causing substantial financial harm to broadcasting organisations. This threatens the commercial sustainability of live and premium content, which is central to broadcasters’ programming.”The EBU, ACT, and AER are urging the WIPO Member States to adopt a future[1]proof Treaty that protects all forms of transmissions; and called upon the WIPO Member States to recommend the WIPO General Assembly to convene a Diplomatic Conference for its adoption.
