US media group Warner Bros. Discovery plans to launch its streaming service Max in Germany in 2026. This was announced today by Clement Schwebig, President & Managing Director, Western Europe & Africa, at the TV Summit of the Medientage München conference in Munich.Schwebig stressed the continuously rising subscription figures that the service is recording worldwide. With exclusive HBO productions, film treasures from Warner Bros. and entertainment and reality content from Discovery+, it will be possible to succeed with streaming in Germany, Schwebig is convinced. The exclusive cooperation with pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland, which has been screening the HBO films and series in Germany to date as the ‘Home of HBO’, has so far prevented Warner Bros. Discovery from launching Max in Germany. The contracts expire in 2026.Asked about the future of the partnership with Sky, Schwebig responded that there is never just one strategy for everything, adding that, in the US, for example, the company also cooperates with other streaming providers.
