The Autorité de la concurrence has opened an investigation into “potential practices” within the pay-TV sector when it comes to the acquisition and broadcast of films.In a statement the French Competition Authority explained the of ex officio proceedings opens a phase of the investigation after which its Investigation Services may notify objections to the companies or associations of companies concerned or advise the Board not to pursue the case.The decision to open an investigation ex officio does not mean the Authority believes there is a case to answer.The Authority says it will not comment further.Canal Plus is the principal company concerned in the acqusision of film titles, but it may be the Authority considers bringing in streaming services Netfux and Amazon Prime Video into its investigations.
