Broadband TV News: Former Bild editor to replace sacked Euronews boss

Story from Broadband TV News:

Euronews has appointed former Axel Springer group journalist Claus Strunz as acting general manager.

It follows last week’s abrupt dismissal of executive director Guillaume Dubois for unspecified reasons.

In a statement from the Lyon-based operation, the 24/7 news channel said Strunz would take on the role of acting general manager and editorial director for a minimum of six months.

Strunz was a member of the editorial board of the conservative daily Die Welt, and editor-in-chief of the popular Bild.

However, some Euronews staff are concerned about the appointment, his political stance, and closeness to Viktor Orban. There have already been concerns raised over the ties between Euronews’ new owners and the Hungarian Prime Minister.

Strunz says he would never accept a job that would be subject to a political leader’s orders.
