Broadband TV News: Multichoice must give a free month to Nigerian subscribers

The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) has imposed a N150 million fine on Multichoice Nigeria for challenging the court’s jurisdiction.

In its ruling, the tribunal ordered Multichoice to provide one month of free subscriptions on DStv and GOtv for Nigerian customers.

Last month, Multichoice Nigeria announced a 25% increase in subscription costs for its DStv and GOtv packages. However, the tribunal, preventing MultiChoice from implementing the tariff hike scheduled for May 1 after it found the eight-day warning was insufficient.

In response, Multichoice Nigeria contested the tribunal’s decision, filing an application on to challenge the jurisdiction of the tribunal regarding the price restraining order.
