Broadband TV News: Ekstraklasa back on free-to-air TV in Poland

Story from Broadband TV News:

TVP Sport has secured free-to-air rights to top flight football following a sublicensing agreement with Canal+.

Coverage of the Ekstraklasa ended at the end of the last season, and although early talks between the two broadcasters appeared positive, no agreement was forthcoming. Following TVP’s recent management change, talks were resumed, this time with a positive outcome for the PSB.

TVP will show a total of 15 matches this season.

“With great pleasure, we can officially announce that the Ekstraklasa games are returning to TVP Sport. We start this Sunday with the match ?l?sk Wroc?aw – Pogo? Szczecin. Until the end of the season, we’ll broadcast one match from each round,” TVP Sport director Jakub Kwiatkowski announced on Twitter.

The league said it was delighted coverage had returned to TVP: “This is of great importance for the long-term development of football in Poland and the popularisation of the league. Our matches are becoming more and more popular, we break attendance records in stadiums. I am convinced that the world-class production of games and its availability in open TVP channels will translate into even greater interest,” commented Marcin Animucki, president of Ekstraklasa SA.

Matches will typically be shown on Sunday evenings at 17.00.
