Variety: HBO Changes the Names of 6 TV Channels as HBO2 Becomes HBO Hits and More

Story from Variety:

HBO is enacting more name changes, as the cabler has given a cosmetic makeover to six of its U.S. linear channels:

  • HBO2 is now called HBO Hits.
  • HBO Signature is now called HBO Drama.
  • HBO Zone is now called HBO Movies.
  • MoreMAX is now called Cinemax Hits.
  • ActionMAX is now called Cinemax Action.
  • 5starMAX is now called Cinemax Classics.
These updated names will be reflected on TV starting today, and they’ll also apply to the live in-app “channels” within HBO Max, which allows users on select plans to stream live HBO programming via simulcasts.

This rebrand comes two months after Warner Bros. Discovery changed the name of its streaming service, formerly known as Max, back to HBO Max. The streamer first launched as HBO Max in 2020 and was renamed to Max in 2023 to capture the full breadth of the post-merger Warner Bros. Discovery catalog. In summer 2025, it was renamed back to HBO Max, and the streamer riffed on a famous “White Lotus” line on social media: “These rebrands are trying to murder me,” it said in its updated X bio. (Lest we forget the now-defunct HBO Go and HBO Now.)

At the 2025 Warner Bros. Discovery upfront, CEO David Zaslav said, “The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming. Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”
