Broadband TV News: New rights deal for Six Nations in Ireland

Story from Broadband TV News:

RTÉ and Virgin Media Television will continue to share coverage of Six Nations Rugby through to 2029.

Six Nations Rugby, Virgin Media Television, and RTÉ have announced a new long-term agreement that will provide coverage of the Men’s, Women’s, and U20 Six Nations competitions in Ireland through 2029.

Audiences in Ireland will have free-to-air access to live matches, highlights, radio, and audio coverage once fixtures commence in 2026.

Under the agreement, RTÉ will air eight Men’s Championship matches (including two featuring Ireland), seven Women’s Six Nations fixtures, and seven U20 matches, with three involving Ireland, during the 2026 season.

Virgin Media will broadcast seven men’s matches (three featuring Ireland), eight women’s fixtures, and eight U20 games, including two Ireland matches per championship. Fixture allocation between RTÉ and Virgin Media will alternate each year of the partnership.

Tom Harrison, CEO of Six Nations Rugby said: “The Six Nations is recognised as a leading global sporting event, attracting significant viewership annually. With this new partnership, fans in Ireland will have ongoing free-to-air access to all matches over the next four years. The combined support for the Women’s and U20 Six Nations by both broadcasters is intended to further develop audience engagement and exposure for these competitions.”
