Deadline: Warner Bros Discovery Lays Out New-Look Asia Pacific Team, Japan Chief Retires

Story from Deadline:

Warner Bros Discovery‘s international restructuring has continued with James Gibbons setting out the shape of his Asia Pacific team, with Japanese Country Manager Masami Takahashi choosing to retire.

Last month, long-serving Warner Bros Discovery exec Gibbons was handed a new brief as President of Asia Pacific and today he has unveiled a new-look structure.

Reporting to him will be regional chiefs Tony Qiu, Arjun Nohwar, Magdalene Ew, Lynn Ng, Shonali Bedi and Jae Chang. Takahashi, Warner Bros Discovery Japan Country Manager and Head of Studios, had decided to retire and will exit at the end of 2024. Recruitment for a Tokyo-based replacement will commence soon.

Of those remaining Qiu will be General Manager, Greater China & Southeast Asia, leading a regional cluster of SEA, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Nohwar will be GM, South Asia, based in Mumbai, while Ew is Head of Content, Streaming, APAC. Ng will be Head of Content, Networks, APAC and Bedi is Head of Strategy, Partnerships & Insights, APAC. Chang is named Head of Content Licensing, SEA, India and Korea. The team will all be based in Singapore bar Nohwar, who will work out of Mumbai.

Elsewhere, Daniel Tan expands his remit to Head of Marketing, APAC, and continues to report to Patrizio Spagnoletto, Warner Bros Discovery's Global Chief Marketing Officer, Direct-to-Consumer. Kurt Rieder continues as Head of Theatrical Distribution, APAC, reporting to Andrew Cripps, President, International Theatrical Distribution and Jason Monteiro continues as APAC Lead, Streaming, reporting to JB Perrette, CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games.

“Culturally, demographically, and economically, APAC is the most diverse region, with more than half of the world’s population and a mix of developed and emerging markets,” said Gibbons. “There are significant growth opportunities here, and I have every confidence that this leadership and our talented teams have the expertise, skills and ambition to drive optimum value across our globally renowned portfolio.”

Gibbons was promoted to run all of APAC last month in a restructure following a spate of C-suite level exits across the international Warner Bros Discovery business. Clement Schwebig, who was managing India, Southeast Asia and Korea, took on Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Benelux and Africa, bringing together the Western Europe and Africa market cluster under his leadership.
