Deadline: Lauren Stein Upped To Head Of Creative At Sony Pictures TV

Story from Deadline:

Sony Pictures Television Studios’ head of drama Lauren Stein has been elevated to Head of Creative. In the newly created role, drama and comedy development, TriStar Television, international co-productions, and current programming on series in their first year of production will be under Stein’s purview. Stein will continue to report to Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope.

Stein’s promotion comes three months after Sony Pictures Television Studios Co‐President Jason Clodfelter departed to become President of Television at Legendary and restores a creative executive layer under Pope. Like Clodfelter, a former SPT Studios co-head of drama, Stein is taking over the new post having led the studio’s drama team.

“Lauren leads with her passion, her taste, her drive and her gift for collaboration,” Pope said. “She has been instrumental in discovering and developing some of the studio’s biggest drama series and is always looking for material to keep SPT ahead of the curve. I know we all count on her partnership and mentorship and are cheering her on in this new role.”

As EVP of Drama Development, a position Stein has held since 2017, she has overseen SPT’s drama team, and has been instrumental in the development and production of hits such as The Boys, The Good Doctor, The Night Agent, Goosebumps and The Wheel of Time, which were recently joined by The Night Agent, which ranks sixth on Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 list and reached the #1 spot in 87 countries, and Goosebumps, which became Disney Branded Television’s most-watched season premiere of the year. Stein also developed upcoming series Obliterated at Netflix, Dark Matter at Apple and the new Vince Gilligan series at Apple.

This marks the third stint together for Stein and Pope. Stein previously worked for Pope at Chernin Entertainment and NBC/UMS.

Stein joined SPT eight years ago from Chernin Entertainment where she was SVP of Drama Development. Prior to that, Stein served as VP, Drama Programming at Universal Media Studios. She began her television career at NBC, where she held several roles.
