RTÉ: RTÉ reports mean gender pay gap of 11.29%

The gender pay gap at RTÉ has narrowed slightly compared to last year.

The figures, which measure the difference between what men and women earn, show that the mean gender pay gap at RTÉ for 2023 stands at 11.29%, down from the previous year's figure of 11.55%.

The median gender pay gap decreased from 13.03% in 2022 to 12.75% in 2023.

When considering employees in grades without overtime, the mean gender pay gap saw a reduction from 10% in 2022 to 9.82% in 2023.

The mean pay gap is the difference between the average hourly rate of pay for women, compared to the average hourly rate of pay for men.

The median pay gap represents the difference in hourly pay between the middle-placed woman and the middle-placed man.

In its gender pay gap report, RTÉ stated that while progress has been made, it acknowledges the importance of sustained focus on gender equality initiatives.

"We are committed to thoroughly examining and comprehending the causes of these disparities, and we will continue implementing our multi-year action plan to address the gender pay gap in our organisation," it said.

Companies with 250 or more employees are required to publish their latest gender pay gap reports in the month of December.

This is the second year in which larger firms have to release details of the pay differential between male and female employees.

The gender pay gap reporting obligation will extend to employers with 150 or more staff in June of next year and to those that employ 50 or more in June 2025.

Recent analysis by Deloitte found an overall 13.3% mean gender pay gap and a median pay gap of 10.2%.

According to the Central Statistics Office the gender pay gap in Ireland for 2022 was 9.6%.
