Broadband TV News: Sky Deutschland to continue SD distribution

Story from Broadband TV News:

Sky Deutschland is not planning a complete transition to HD for the time being and will continue to offer some of its channels in SD resolution.

This was confirmed by a spokeswoman of the German pay-TV operator. On Vodafone Deutschland’s cable network, these channels are still available in SD: Sky Cinema Premieren +24, Sky Cinema Fun, Sky Cinema Classics and Sky Cinema Family.

Via satellite, the following third-party channels will continue to be available in SD: Heimatkanal, Crime & Investigation, Curiosity Channel powered by Spiegel, Nicktoons, Nick Jr, Cartoon Network, Cartoonito (ex Boomerang) and Jukebox.

That won’t change for the foreseeable future. “For contractual reasons, the HD launch of these individual partner channels has not yet taken place and is not currently planned,” the Sky spokeswoman told Broadband TV News.

On March 22, 2023, Sky Deutschland had switched off the SD signal of 27 channels in favour of HD-only distribution.
